Thermal Transfer Overprinters (TTO)

Thermal transfer overprinters — TTO printers — are used for printing variable data on flexible packaging such as films, bags, and labels. They are most commonly used in the packaging of confectionery and bakery products, frozen food, dried fruit, coffee, and snacks.

TTO printers operate in contact with the surface and enable printing within a defined print area, with a resolution of 200 to 300 dpi. As a result, the print appears similar to pre-printed packaging. They use different types and colours of ribbons, most commonly black and white, as well as special ribbons for printing on the inside of film, approved for direct food contact.

Videojet offers a range of TTO printer models that can operate in intermittent and continuous modes. The selection of the appropriate model depends on the print area size, the number of packs per minute, and the film movement speed.

Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)

Due to their reliability and easy integration, TTO printers are often installed as original equipment by OEMs in the packaging machines they manufacture. TRIM provides equipment delivery, bracket fabrication according to the requirements of the packaging machine, as well as training for commissioning and operation of Videojet TTO printers.

Control is also possible via the packaging machine HMI panel through an internet browser.

Advantages of Videojet TTO Printers

Videojet TTO printers enable simple and reliable operation with minimal errors. Within the print area, they can print barcodes, logos, nutrition tables, dates, expiry dates, lot numbers, real-time data, control numbers, as well as information required by HACCP and other standards. Codes can also be printed from a database. The new generation of Videojet TTO printers does not require an external air supply, simplifying installation and maintenance. The patented bidirectional drive prevents ribbon breakage and enables a gap between prints of only 0.5 mm. Key advantages include fast ribbon replacement, raster printing, network connectivity, remote control, and printer performance statistics and analysis.
